What are the mosquito-repelling devices?

Mosquito repellents have become very popular these days and there is a reason for it, mosquitoes have drastically increased in number and people need innovative ways to keep them out. All this has resulted in your benefit as there are so many different devices available to you to choose from.

Zappers

Bug zappers use electricity to kill mosquitoes or any other bug flying around you. They usually come with an attractant to lure mosquitoes toward them and then kill them as soon as they come in contact with the grid.

Zone Mosquito Repeller

Zone mosquito repellers are portable devices that can be set up anywhere and they run on batteries. This device gets heated and gives out odor or smoke that keeps out mosquitoes within a certain area.

Mosquito Repellent System

Mosquito repellent systems are more of a permanent kind of system that requires a good setup but they can cover a large zone. They usually operate on refills but sometimes they can also be of zappers or zone repellers.

What are the mosquito repellent sprays?

Some materials in this world have the natural property of repelling mosquitoes. Sprays are made by mixing oil of these materials with water. This liquid when sprayed gives out this aroma that keeps out mosquitoes.

Which is better? Devices or Sprays?

A question may arise often in your mind, which one is better, mosquito repelling devices or mosquito repelling sprays. Both are good in some areas while lacking in others.

Camper’s Guide To Repelling Mosquitoes

As a camper, you can use different techniques to keep out mosquitoes. There are oils you can make natural sprays of, you can light campfire and close tent door and use mosquito nets, etc.

Even while choosing the location of your campsite, you can use some tips to avoid too many mosquitoes like looking for a place far from the water body and wearing dark clothes, etc.

If you want to know more about this segment, you can check out How to Repel Mosquitoes While Camping.

Buyer’s Guide – Best Mosquito Repellent Devices For Camping

Here’s a thorough guide to walk you through all necessary points to consider before buying a mosquito repellent device for your next camp:

Buyers guide of mosquito repellent device

Portability

If you are going to camp, you definitely will be going someplace nice and for that, you will have to carry all the luggage. Now the tents and the food baskets will make up most of your luggage. So, you will need a device that can be easily portable and can be carried around with the other stuff.

Lightweight

It is an added advantage if the means you are carrying for repelling mosquitoes is light in weight. This will enable you to carry it in your backpack or even by hand. Too heavy mosquito repellents are generally ignored by campers.

Effective

Most camping sites are susceptible to a large number of mosquitoes. Now to have a pleasant camping trip, you have to make sure that whatever you are carrying to repel or kill mosquitoes has to be effective on a large scale of mosquito flocks.

Odor

It sometimes occurs with campers that the mosquito repeller works effectively to keep mosquitoes out for the night, but later they realize that the foul odor of their repeller has become the reason for keeping them awake. This situation has to be kept in mind and you have to check if the mosquito repeller device is giving out any kind of foul smell.

Buyer’s Guide – Best Mosquito Repellent Sprays For Camping

Let us now look at features to look at in a mosquito repellent spray:

Buyers guide of mosquito repellent spray

Nature

The nature of a mosquito repellent spray should be checked first. If a chemical is dangerous to handle, it can result in some accidents if enough care is not taken. It is also good if it is safe for children, plants, and pets.

Portability

To go camping, you need to carry your repellent spray with you. For that to be the case though, the spray has to be light in weight and easily packable or the more preferable can be kept in a pocket.

Spray Bottle

Some bottle of repellent comes in jars which have to be prepared and poured in a spray while some come in a spray bottle, to begin with. We prefer the latter but it can be overlooked if you have a spray bottle in your possession.

Eco-friendly

If you want to care for the environment, you can look if the spray is made up of eco-friendly chemicals that have no adverse effect on the surroundings and plants. With the recent focus on the environmental factor, this has become even more important.

Odorless

Who wants to stay awake because of a foul smell? Suppose you don’t like the smell of lemon and your repellent smells just like lemons, that would just be a nightmare. So, you need to make sure that the odor of your repellent agrees with you.

Cost-effective

Repellent sprays are a cheaper alternative to repellent devices, so naturally, you need to ensure that the spray is cost effective. You need to look if for the quantity you are getting the right price. Buy a cheaper alternative and enjoy a good camp within your budget.

Our Opinion

Broan-NuTone HVK400 Backyard Mosquito Repellent System Kit is one of the best options available currently in the market for mosquito-free camping. This system contained 4 cartridges, 65 feet wire, a controller, and refills.

The setup was quite convenient for us, no very difficult but not very easy. You can set up the 4 cartridges in 4 corners of your tent and connect them by the wire. The wire is meant to be dug underground but since you need it temporarily, you can keep it above the ground. Now you can load the diffuser jar and switch on the control unit. You will need an electric source which is kind of a problem if you are going somewhere with no access to electricity.

The protection it provided us with was very good, it covered a wide area and the longer we used it the more effective it became. You can use it for 200 hours nonstop by filling the diffuser jars once.

A few problems associated with it were that we had to set it up a bit further than the tent. There is the risk of getting affected by the repellent if you inhale too much of it. Also, the assembly had a lot of parts that had to be carried.

But overall, if you want a bug free camp, Broan-NuTone HVK400 Backyard Mosquito Repellent System Kit will surely be satisfactory for you.

Our Opinion

If you want value for money with your mosquito repellent, you should look no further than Radius Zone Mosquito Repeller from Thermacell. We found the design was very elegant and simple. It was compact and it can be carried around anywhere very easily.

You just have to put in the refill inside the repellent and switch it on. The device gets heated up and the repellent is diffused to the environment. The chemicals are very safe to be around and the device is rechargeable. It says that it works 6. 5 hours per recharge but in actuality, it lasted around 6 hours after some time.

It is also available at a minimal cost. The only drawback that we can think of is if you are going somewhere where constant recharging is not possible, this may cause some problems.

But overall, Radius Zone Mosquito Repeller from Thermacell was a very good value for a mosquito repellent device.

Our Opinion

Thermacell MR450 Armored Portable Mosquito Repellent is the best customer rated mosquito repellent for a reason. You can easily take it around with you to camp and enjoy a mosquito-free environment.

You have to put a mat containing the repellent inside the device and switching it on makes the repellent diffuse into the environment. You have to change the mat once it turns white. You also need to put the fuel cartridge for the heating of the device so that the repellent diffuses.

You will need two 2A batteries for the device to run. The repellent however has a considerably small area of protection and its effectiveness, though good is not the best.

However, if you want a good mosquito repellent device that can be easily set up anywhere, you can buy the Thermacell MR450 Armored Portable Mosquito Repellent.

Our Opinion

BLACK+DECKER Outdoor Mosquito Repellent Device is one of the best electronic mosquito repellents. It can easily fit into the decor of the tent. It looked very elegant and was portable at the same time.

You can just simply hang it outside or inside at a high position and it will automatically attract bugs, kill them, and collect in the container. It uses UV light for luring and an electric grid for zapping, so there is no odor. We found that there was no unnecessary noise from this device.

The bottom tray comes off easily and hence you can clean the device easily. The bulb is replaceable but we didn’t have to replace it for as long as we used it.

The only thing that bothered us a little was that it had to be plugged in at all times. But other than that, it was very effective and elegant. So, you can surely check out the BLACK+DECKER Outdoor Mosquito Repellent Device.

Our Opinion

KATCHY Indoor Insect Trap is a very good mosquito repellent device and you will no regret buying this bug zapper. Similar to the previous zapper on the list, it has an elegant design and can fit into any decor. For camping purposes, we can say it is very light in weight and can be easily carried around.

It can be hung anywhere and the UV light will attract flies, the fan will suck them in and the glue trap will hold them before killing them and collecting in the container.

All you have to do is clean the container every day and it can even last a long time. Just like the previous one on the list, it needs to be plugged in for work.  So, if you are looking for mosquito traps for camping, you can look at KATCHY Indoor Insect Trap.

Our Opinion

HEMIUA Pro Bug Zapper Mosquito Killer is the best bug repellent for RV. It has a nice design to it and it works on all types of insects. It covered a big area and if you want to go to a camp, it can be very effective. It can be used anywhere because the body is waterproof but you should still keep it away from water.

There has to be placed a repellent mat and a fuel cartridge. Simply switch it on and it will start attracting mosquitoes.

You can hang it in a tent and you can sleep comfortably. There were no fouls smell or noise. The mosquitoes got attracted to the UV light and got killed as soon as it touched the grid.

Turning off the light and keeping this device in a corner for a while killing all the mosquitoes inside the tent. One thing is that the grid needs to be carefully handled.

So, overall HEMIUA Pro Bug Zapper Mosquito Killer is worth checking out.

Our Opinion

Thermacell Bristol Mosquito Repellent Lantern is a good option for repelling mosquitoes in camping. We used it at a campsite where there was a huge number of mosquitoes and it worked quite effectively.

The device didn’t produce any scent and the setup was very easy. Its weight was also light enough. The lantern design was elegant and can be used when children were around.

It operated on three batteries and you have to use mats as a repellent. Place the mat in the device and insert the fuel cartridge. Switching it on starts up heating and diffusing the repellent into the environment. The quality of the material wasn’t top grade and it also took around 10-15 minutes to heat up and start. But overall, Thermacell Bristol Mosquito Repellent Lantern provided a good mosquito free camping experience.

Our Opinion

FENUN Mosquito Traps are the best bet for a portable Mosquito repellent. The design was very commendable and it was quite easy to setup. It was very effective in killing bugs and the bottom container is also detachable.

Just like all bug zappers, this one has to be plugged in all the time but this one doesn’t consume much power. The zapper had the option of changing between 7 different wavelengths but honestly, you cannot feel the difference. 10 glue boards were quite nice and considering one was effective enough for quite some time, this is a good option and at the price the device came in, it was good value.

One thing we can say is that the feature of 7 wavelengths was unnecessary for us and the material was also susceptible to damage.

Our Opinion

Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repellent is a very good option for repelling mosquitoes in camping. We found that the device protected quite a large area. The elegant and compact design made it easily portable.

The device was easy to use and was very simple to set up. You can place the mat, insert the fuel, which is a butane cartridge that needs to be screwed to the device, and then rotates the base 2 to 3 times to switch it on and hang it anywhere you want. So, anyone can operate this device. Also, it worked for 12 hours but you can use refills that have a larger capacity.

The flaws of this device are that you cannot keep food near it or have pets around, especially cats. But the large area of protection usually covers it up. So, you can surely look at Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repellent for your next camping trip.

Our Opinion

Livin’ Well Bug Zapper is a very powerful bug zapper. It killed wasps, mosquitoes, moths, or practically any insects that can fly. The UV light was very bright and it is always favorable for attracting mosquitoes. The design is in a lantern pattern and the bulb was replaceable.

The box had a 6 ft cable with it and it is very necessary for campers who would want to hang it upwards. The electric grid system meant that there was no issue of chemicals or baby proofing. However, we still advise you to keep it hanging high. It made a slight noise when killing bugs.

From a camper’s point of view, the zapper was light and portable and can be very effective in any condition.

One issue with this zapper was that there was no tray for collecting killed bugs and unlike some other bugs there were no glue traps. But if you care for sound sleep without disturbance, you can get your hands on Livin’ Well Bug Zapper

Our Opinion

TBI Pro Bug Zapper has the strongest grid among all bug zappers in the market. It is also one of the best mosquito repellent device for camping. The 4000 V zapper was effective as well because even the bees got zapped in this grid.

The handle had a ring-type holder for hanging it and the UV light was bright enough to attract mosquitoes. The 4 ft cord was shorter than other zappers have with them, but as per our camping experience, it was long enough. You can also place it flat on the bottom, but a high voltage grid means you have to be careful around it. The material was good and it is waterproof.

No chemical issue because it runs on electricity and it covered quite a large distance as well. As far as durability goes, it was very durable and it came with a brush for cleaning. You just need to remember that you do not touch the grid immediately after turning it off as it may lead to electrocution.

An issue that we faced was that the bottom tray where you need to place the attractant and clean of the bugs, was quite tight and the design could have been better there. Other than that, TBI Pro Bug Zapper was very good overall.

What We Like

  • Very effective
  • A large area of protection
  • Easily portable
  • Waterproof and good quality material
  • Light is very bright

What We Don’t Like

  • Short cord length
  • Bad designing of the bottom tray.

Our Opinion

Colton’s Naturals – Mosquito Repellent is the best mosquito repellent spray for camping because of its effectiveness. The repellent was easy to apply and since it was 100% natural it is safe to use.

We used 4 ounces per gallon at first and sprayed around but it was not very effective but when we doubled it to 8 ounces per gallon, it became very effective and the mosquitoes stayed out.

Mosquito repellent sprays do not require electricity and so it can be carried anywhere. There was almost no smell with only a hint of garlic smell coming sometimes. There was also no issue of noise with repellent spray.

An issue with this is that if there are light rainstorms, the repellent needs to be sprayed all over. Also, the chemical can be dangerous to humans, so it needs to be handled carefully and kept away from children.

Overall, Colton’s Naturals – Mosquito Repellent is a very good option for places with no electricity.

Our Opinion

As a camper or even as the general public, the REPEL Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent is a powerful solution to mosquitoes. It comes in three different packs, single piece, pack of 2, and a pack of 6 but the pack of 2 is a cost-effective option. We knew that lemon eucalyptus is a good mosquito repellent, so we went ahead and tested this product and we can say it was quite effective. The pack of 2 had 4 ounces of repellent and they lasted for a long time.

The spraying was easy and the container is designed to support that. The sprayed areas didn’t have a greasy or sticky feeling which was good for our camping.

However, if you don’t like the smell of lemons, you surely don’t want this product. It didn’t give a chemical smell and for us the lemon smell was elegant.

You still had to keep it away from children and avoid spraying on children. But with no issue of electricity, REPEL Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent certainly justifies its good customer rating.

What We Like

  • Non-sticky
  • Easily portable
  • Cheap and value for money
  • Easy to spray
  • No electricity required

Our Opinion

Sawyer Insect Repellent is the best-rated mosquito repellent spray in the market and also the most popular one. It certainly justifies the rating because it is very cheap and very useful for camping.

It comes in a spray bottle from which spraying is very easy. The liquid is made of permethrin, which is used here in the US and Canady for treating uniforms. So, this liquid can also be sprayed over clothes or tents and the effect is remarkable.

The protection lasts for 4-5 weeks unless the cloth is washed rigorously. It also, had no stains on the clothes on which it was applied. One bottle contains 24 ounces of repellent which is good enough for completely spraying 5 pieces of clothing for 6 weeks.

All we can say is, the best-rated mosquito repellent spray, Sawyer Insect Repellent is an option you can check out.

Our Opinion

Wondercide – EcoTreat Outdoor Pest Control Spray Concentrate is a good mosquito repellent and it also serves the purpose of being eco-friendly. It was made of cedar oil which by itself is a good mosquito repellent.

You have to apply it twice within the 10 days but if you stay longer, you can get rid of mosquitoes from your camp completely, i.e, maintenance requirement is low. The 16-ounce bottle can cover 10000 square feet which is quite a large area. The repellent was safe for pets like cats and dong and plants as well. The smell was minimal and with no electricity required, it is a good option.

The bottle didn’t have a spray in it so that was a problem. But other than this, the Wondercide – EcoTreat Outdoor Pest Control Spray Concentrate was very useful for camping.

It comes in a pack of four bottles of weight 8 oz, 4 oz, 2 oz, and 1 oz respectively. So, for a family going for a camp, you can give one to each of your family members and the best part is that even the biggest bottle of the pack can fit in your pocket. The effectiveness is without a doubt excellent and keeps out all kinds of bugs.

The repellent had a vanilla scent that is pleasing to the nose and it also can be used around pets and kids.

It is effective against all kinds of bugs but occasionally you may feel some mosquito bites. But still, Bug Soother Spray Family Pack is a very good bug repellent.

Mosquito Magician Natural Mosquito Killer is made up of 6 different mosquito-repelling natural oil and this makes it a very good option indeed. All the oils are eco-friendly and safe to be sprayed around kids as well as pets.

The procedure was found to be very easy, you just have to mix 4-6 ounces in 1 gallon of water and use a sprayer to spray it around your campsite to enjoys 1 to 2 weeks of mosquito-free camp.

You can spray it anywhere without harming the environment be it ponds where mosquitoes breed or plants. The customer support is also very good as they ensure complete money back if it isn’t effective.

However, you need to have your sprayer for using this product and it is also not completely odorless. Overlooking these things, we can say that Mosquito Magician Natural Mosquito Killer is truly magical and one of the best mosquito repellent sprays for camping.

California Baby Plant-Based Natural Bug Repellant Spray is the best Mosquito repellent spray for Babies, Toddlers, Kids. It came in a pack of 2 with 6.5 fl oz quantity on each. The design was simple and it was a spray bottle.

The bottle said it was made up of cedar, lemongrass, and citronella. We can confirm that because it gave a lemon smell but pleasant for the nose. The repellent worked for hours and there was no sticky or irritating feeling on the skin.

You can simply apply it to your baby and keep him away from bug bites. The bottle is easily portable and can fit in a pocket. The price is a bit high but it is safe and very effective. 8 Best Portable Camping Solar Panels Review & Buyer’s Guide

Buyer’s Guide – Best Portable Camping Solar Panels

Best portable camping solar panel buyer guide

Types of Solar Panels for Camping

  • Monocrystalline solar panels– these are pricey yet highly efficient solar panels. Their efficiency is also the most affected by shading and dirt.
  • Polycrystalline solar panels– These are slightly less efficient and inexpensive compared to monocrystalline panels, these also have a longer lifespan.
  • Thin-film (amorphous) solar panels- Thin-film solar panels perform better in higher temperatures and hot climate, cloudy weather, or even in partial shading conditions. These are also the least expensive as compared to the other two and are lightweight, mostly foldable.

Size of the Panel

While camping, the most important rule is to pack light and carry all the essentials.

Since we have established that Solar panels are essential for a camping trip, we need to make sure that these are compact and will not take much space when setting a tent.

In short, we need small solar panels for camping.

Dust and Waterproof

Your solar panels for camping must be weather and dust resistant as you set out for your trip. This is because you don’t want to be stuck without power in case the weather takes a turn, and your panel failed to store energy. (IP67)

Power Output / Storage Capacity

Estimating your energy demands is vital before you invest in a solar panel.

You need to determine what kind of appliances do you carry to your camping site and for how long do you run them. This way, you will be able to calculate your daily energy consumption while in a camp.

Also, take into account what kind of climate do you usually prefer for your trips. This will help you in finding the best portable camping solar panel for your trip.

Price

While purchasing electrical units make it essential that you get the one that has better features and a longer lifespan. So even if the best ones can be a little pricey, it can be a one-time investment if purchased smartly.

Portable / Fixed Solar Panels

  • Portable solar panels are easy to set up as they don’t particularly need to be installed and are excellent in case you are an avid traveler.
  • Fixed panels- If you travel by car or RV, these can be set on the roof and charged while you are on the road. So these can be a great addition depending on how much sun your vehicle gets.

The recommended choice will be to invest in the best foldable portable solar panels if you are going camping.

Technical Specifications

Watt120W
Dimension23.7 x 18.9 x 1.9 in
Weight8.95 pounds

Our Opinion

It is one of the best camping solar panel kits for your camper if you like to go backpacking.

This is compact and so lightweight that even wind can overturn it. Well, that is one issue, but it can be quickly resolved by putting something more substantial around the panel to easily secure it.

It comes pre-wired and has stands, which makes it easy to adjust and direct the panel to the direction where the sun is shining. It will give you more than enough power to charge items like LED lights, air fans, cell phones, kindle, etc. if it got decent sunlight.

The three panels fold together nicely and resemble a portfolio when closed. These panels are secured by Velcro tabs. However, the Velcro on the back pockets were not able to keep it closed after some use when packed with controller and cords.

It would have been preferable if the USB ports worked when the controller was not connected with the panel, but we know that with good things come to a little adjustment. So if you are thinking of buying this solar panel, you don’t have to second guess yourself. This product is worth it.

What We Like

  • The pre-installed wires and stands allow an easy setting-up in 2 mins
  • Compact and light
  • The carry bag is sturdy
  • Convenient grommets all around to peg it down.
  • Secure Velcro closure to keep the panels closed up
  • No glass panels
  • The panels are flexible and sturdy.
  • The folded unit has a back pocket for the controller and cables.
  • Easy to read LCD display
  • Multiple USB charge ports.
  • Made of Polyester with a water-resistant coating.

What We Don’t Like

  • Wind can overturn the cells.
  • Power drops in the shade.
  • The controller must be connected to support USB charging.
  • The charge controller is not waterproof.

Our Opinion

This solar panel is made for you if you like to travel in a car or an RV. It is a bit on the heavy side for backpackers.

It is easy to move and set up. We encountered a little difficulty when trying to set it up at an angle where it would get better sunlight. But since it is a portable solar panel, the van could be kept in the shade and the panel in sunlight to make the battery full.

It is an excellent addition if you want to use it to charge the 12v accessories. It comes with a protective casing, which is quite sturdy and keeps the solar panel safe. The charger connector is waterproof, so you don’t have to remove it if you are on the move in case there is rain. It also has an LED that shows that it is working, and gives a digital read of the output.

It easily gives around 7 Amps, which is more than enough for a day in the van. The cables can be extended, and if you require more coverage, you can buy extra cables and make it work more efficiently.

What We Like

  • Easy to move and set up
  • A high-quality case for protection
  • The solar charge controller is easy to work with
  • Waterproof solar charger
  • Build quality is sturdy and top-notch

Our Opinion

The adjustable stands are folded in with the help of Velcro. So, you just have to unfold the stand and panel, adjust the positions at a right angle to the sun for maximum output.

The Solar Saga may tip over if there is a gust of wind, but convenient grommets at the corner can be used to tie it securely. It can tolerate a little rain, but if you see the clouds rolling, it is better to remove before the rain shower.

The cables are not very short, but if you need to set up the panel a little farther away in the sun, it is better to keep a cable extension. With the 2 in-built USB ports, you can quickly charge your phones, LED lights, camera, etc.

You can also build a solar panel generator system with the help of a compatible battery. The system can be used without disconnecting the battery from the panel. It does lose some power in the shade, but it is workable, you if you are in the shade it will still work but give you less output.

What We Like

  • Easy to use and set up
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Grommets at the corner
  • 2 inbuilt USB ports (USB-A and USB-C)
  • Gives off great power
  • Adjustable kickstand
  • Back pockets to store cables and connector

What We Don’t Like

  • It is not waterproof

  • Will tip over in the wind

Technical Specifications

Our Opinion

This waterproof panel is a charger only device. So you would need to get a battery to store the charge. However, like a charger, it is quite efficient.

The only issue that you might face is positioning the devices so that they are out of the sun, but the panel is in the sun. So it will require you to do some planning.

You can keep the devices in a backpack as well but that would also not be able to keep the heat out for long. So getting a battery is more efficient if you are thinking of purchasing this solar charger.

It is an excellent choice because of the built-in IC chip that identifies your device, maximizes the charging speed, and protects the device from overloading.

The solar panel is water-resistant. It is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, picnic, etc. It can be easily folded into briefcase size with a handle making it easy to carry.

It is compatible with almost all solar generators in the market and can be considered as one of the best portable solar chargers for camping.

What We Like

  • It is durable and water-resistant
  • Two 5V USB outlet and one DC 12V Port
  • It has four panels that can be folded together to briefcase size.
  • The build quality is superb
  • It has a waterproof pouch to hold the cables
  • Easy to use little water will not damage the camping lantern.

What We Don’t Like

  • It is a charger only
  • Charging laptops is not recommended
  • It is efficient when DC and USB charge is not being used together
  • The junction box is not waterproof
  • No internal batteries to store power

Our Opinion

The best thing about these folding portable solar panels for camping is that you can hang them and use them as per your convenience. You can hang it on the tent, RV, or spread it out on the beach. If you are going backpacking, you can attach it to the bag and directly charge your phone, iPad, GPS, etc.

It can even tolerate a little rain, if not downpour. The inbuilt IC chip protects your device from getting overcharged and overloaded.

Since it does not come with an MC4 cable or battery to store the charge, it adds up to the cost of the setup. It does not have a kickstand, so it becomes a little challenging to put it at the right angle with the sun.

But all in all, if you want the best solar charger for camping, this might be the best choice for you.

What We Like

These lightweight and foldable panels are great for outdoor activities. When tested for backpacking, they were easy to handle.

The panels also work great when you go camping in a car or RV. You can hang it wherever you find it convenient. It has an integrated USB port to keep your devices charged.

When it is getting proper sunlight, it will keep your appliances running and your battery fully charged. It has an easy-to-read LCD display, which is quite helpful when determining the solar panel performance.

However, in the shade, the power output drops considerably. But solar panels are meant to work in the sun, so that should not be considered a drawback.

It is a little on the heavier side and most suitable for going camping in a car or RV. If you are parking your vehicle in the shade, you might need a cable extension to keep the solar panel in the sun.

The kickstand allows you to angle the panel so that it catches maximum sunlight for the best output. It’s LCD display shows the operational information.

It is quite sturdy and was able to tolerate some rain when we encountered on our way to the campsite. It comes with a protective casing and a travel bag that makes it easy to carry.

Our Opinion

Even though the product was a little expensive, it was worth it. It gives out enough power to charge any device that uses a USB connector.

It comes with two 10,000mAh power banks with USB-C ports and Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 to charge your cell phone up to 80% faster than generic chargers. We were able to charge 5 phones and a tablet from the power bank without losing much charge.

It can be folded into a compact size, making it portable but a little heavy, which is not very ideal for a backpacking trip unless you are alright with carrying a low weight. So if you are thinking of investing in this product, they are an excellent choice for when you are using small devices on a trip.

Final Verdict

The most important features to look for in a portable solar panel for camping is that it should be efficient, waterproof, lightweight yet sturdy. The best portable solar panels for camping were ACOPOWER Portable Solar Panel Kits and Renogy Portable Monocrystalline Solar Panel. Both of these solar panels are portable.

However, Acopower is comparatively more lightweight than Renogy.
If you are going backpacking, then Acopower is an excellent investment. It is a foldable portable solar panel that gives enough charge for items like LEDs, cell phones, fans, etc. It has 3 panels that can be folded into an average-sized structure and is held by Velcro.

However, if you think it is not the best solar panel for you, then you can always consider Renogy. For us, it worked quite well, especially as it gave us a clear reading of the panel’s operational data. Its cable can be easily extended to keep the panel in the sun and your van in the shade.

Though these were our preferred choices for the camping trips. If you think we should try out some other solar panel with better features, please do share your valuable comments with us in the section below. You know we love to hear from you.
